Established in April 2021 on the initiative of Ara Pacis Initiatives for Peace in collaboration with Luiss Guido Carli University, Sky TG24, ENI, Terna, and Coldiretti, Pax Humana Hub is an independent strategic and operational center for peace, security, and development in the broader Mediterranean region.
The launch of Pax Humana’s activities is marked by the Sahara Peace Hubs project, which aims to support the stabilization of border communities in Sahelo-Saharan countries by creating multipurpose centers that serve as attractive hubs for peace and socio-economic development in the region. Each hub will feature a health center, spaces for training, culture, sports, and youth entrepreneurship, and a media center managed by local youth.
The first Sahara Peace Hub will be established in Tessalit, northern Mali, with potential expansions in other parts of the country. To ensure the functionality of this center, Ara Pacis, in collaboration with Luiss and Sky TG24, hosted 14 young Malians – men and women from various regions of the country – who were offered training courses in management and journalism from October 18 to 27, 2021. These young people, in addition to managing the future Sahara Peace Hubs, will serve as ambassadors of peace, witnesses, and advocates for a process of peace, stabilization, and development that supports building a future of coexistence and progress.
The initiative was presented at the prestigious headquarters of Luiss University during the graduation ceremony for the young Malians. The event featured speeches from Giovanni Lo Storto, General Director of Luiss, Maria Nicoletta Gaida, President of Ara Pacis Initiatives, Alfio Rapisarda, Group Head of Security at Eni, Ettore Prandini, President of Coldiretti, and Liliana Faccioli Pintozzi, Head of the Foreign News Desk at Sky TG24. Mohammad Ag Acherif, Associate Director of Sahel Conseil, also provided his testimony.
The conclusions were delivered by the President of the University, Vincenzo Boccia, who stated: “The Sahara Peace Hubs (SPH) and Pax Humana represent fundamental pieces of a large social inclusion project aimed at promoting the fundamental right to education and growth for talented young people living in highly disadvantaged areas of the world. We are proud to contribute to this initiative as part of a broader plan to train a new leadership class capable of laying the foundations for constructive dialogue and opportunities for future generations.”
